Extended Missions after retirement

1996-97 - Member of OECD/DAC Task Force on Conflict, Peace and Development
UNDP-designated member of the OECD/DAC Task Force on Conflict, Peace and Development Cooperation, with drafting assignments for the preparation of the related DAC policy guidelines.

1993-94 - Humanitarian Coordinator, Mozambique
Directed the Office of Humanitarian Assistance Coordination (UNOHAC), a part of the United Nations operation in Mozambique, which had coordinating authority over an internationally funded relief and rehabilitation programme in the order of US$ 600 million.

1992 - Director for Rehabilitation, Cambodia
As Director for Rehabilitation in the UN Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC), I was responsible for the coordination of the international relief and rehabilitation effort in Cambodia, for the first six months of the operation.

1991 - United Nations Special Representative, Iraq
Following the Gulf War, for a period of 9 months, I directed a special unit for the coordination of humanitarian assistance to Iraq, which was established under under the authority of the Executive Delegate of the Secretary-General for all UN operations in the region
